How did Denver based SKI-TEC start recycling skis into chairs?

My Grandfather and I decided we needed a project. Having grown up in Colorado, being an avid skier for many years, and spending a lot of time in the Colorado mountains, I have seen a number of recycled ski chairs but have never been able to find one to buy. Since skis are are not really something you can sell after they've been used and abused (although some people on Craigslist seem to think a 20 year old pair of skis is still worth $50), I found my garage filled with a sizable collection of old skis just gathering dust. How can i recycle skis?? Hmmm...Why not chop 'em up? After a few hours, a few saw blades, and lots of smoke and sparks, we had successfully chopped up our first batch of skis. We then looked at a number of Adirondack patio chairs and concocted the design for our base. After a few hours of "measure once, cut twice" we had finally finished our first adirondack ski chair. The basic design is still being used with a few refinements and upgrades. Here are a few pics from the first chair.

Thanks to my Grandfather (KOG), who is 88 years old, for working with me on this project!

Chopping up the skis. Lots of smoke and sparks. Skis have metal in them...who knew?

(My Father and Grandfather) Finally they are all cut up. How many blades did we use? We need a plasma saw next time!

Still doesn't look level. Maybe the floor is slanted?

Pretty good work if I do say so myself.

The first one sucked!! Do we really want to cut the rest of these?

Drill press is absolutely neccessary for drilling through metal.

Hmmmmm....Nothing clever to say about this one.
